Who Are We

We started this because we love movies.

Sleeper Hit Studio was created by Tim and Titus Heckel because they're movie nerds. From wide-eyed love of The Black Cauldron on their very first theater trip, to making homemade movies with friends in high school, to burning out the VHS player on stacks of classics from Video Update in Minnesota, the Heckel brothers know what it means to obsess over cinematic art.

Titus's latest feature, Chained, won the Vancouver Film Critics Circle's national One to Watch award and earned screenplay nominations from the VFCC, the Leos, and the New York International Awards. His debut feature, With Child, premiered at Busan, and his scripts have also placed three times at the Nicholl quarter or semi-final level with three different scripts, plus twice at Austin Film Festival.

He has written for television, most recently a Lifetime thriller, and Tim brings the builder mindset behind the product and the room itself. That mix of lived filmmaking experience and practical studio-building is what shapes Sleeper Hit Studio.

Tim + Titus

Sleeper Hit Studio comes from real collaboration: filmmaking standards, product thinking, and a deep belief that writers deserve a better room.

Writer Results

Sharper work is what people remember.

The throughline in these responses is not novelty. It is rigor, clarity, honest feedback, and the feeling that the work finally started moving in the right direction.

Titus combines a high-level approach to feature structure with a boots-on-the-ground work ethic. With his diligence, imagination, honesty and wonderful sense of humour, he'll get you through the challenge of shaping your idea and pouring it onto the page.

What I loved about Titus's classes, whatever we were talking about Titus made it so fun and interesting and he made it so engaging. And he took something as complicated as how to write a good story and he broke it down into simple and easy steps. I came out of his class a much stronger writer than I was before.

P

Peter

I've learned so much from him and improved immensely as a screenwriter, which I attribute a lot to his honesty. A lot of people told me what I wanted to hear which didn't do me any favors, but Titus told me what I needed to hear. I'm glad that I listened because my script has turned into something that people really enjoy and I could not have done without his help.
